Upcoming and Ongoing Events
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
In this class, students will work with a variety of dry and wet media including paint, pencils, and charcoal. They will work from both life and their imaginations. The class will begin with a focus on black and white drawing using pencils, markers, and ink. As the weeks progress, color will slowly be introduced into our art projects, culminating in a final, long-term project involving colorful, mixed media collage!
Pastel Studio I: currently full
Pastel Studio II: 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
This studio is for both experienced pastel artists as well as people new to the medium, or any art, for that matter. No experience necessary! We will have weekly topics that you may choose to follow, or spin off on your own work.
If you’re fascinated with vibrant color and line work, and want to carve out some time to work with a new medium, Becky will introduce you to the immediate gratification of pastel. This class will allow you to explore subjects while building skill and confidence in your handling of the medium.
For beginners and for those with drawing experience, the sessions will include drawing exercises and opportunities to create finished artworks. They will also offer an open environment of sharing knowledge and posing questions with individual attention. Experienced pastel artists may work on their own, with as much input and feedback as wanted.
Topics for class discussions include composition, value ranges, perspective, color, and light. If you work from photographs or already have sketches or objects you wish to work with, please bring those along, and if you have your own materials you’re welcome to use them. All materials will be supplied.
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
There is nothing as wonderful as clay! It is responsive and feels good to touch. Learn pinchpot, coil, and slab handbuilding techniques to create sculptures of animals, people, and houses. Use real firing clay to create tiles, bowls, dishes, and teapots you can really use. Projects will reflect class interests.
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
In this fun, hands-on, generative writing class, students will learn the basics of short fiction writing in a safe, non-competitive atmosphere that honors imagination and creative risk-taking over scholastic ability. For each of the first thirteen weeks, we will explore literary devices used in stories through a series of writing activities. Students will have the opportunity to meet other young writers and to share their work in a safe, encouraging setting. During the last three weeks of class, students will begin compiling all that they’ve learned and will begin, with the help of the instructor, constructing what will become their first complete story.
All genres, voices, and writing styles are encouraged. No previous workshop experience necessary. No previous awards or publications needed to join. Just bring your enthusiasm and curiosity! Students will also need pens and notebooks. They will have the option to bring their laptops.
Greenfield artist Andy Rothschild will be showcasing his art in the Artspace gallery from Monday, September 25, through Thursday, October 5. Check the gallery page on our website for future updates!
