Artspace Community Arts Center is a school for the arts, a home for the imagination in downtown Greenfield. We are dedicated to making music and the arts affordable for all the members of our community, doing so through our passionate and loving community!
Artspace is Greenfield's home for accessible arts and music education, hosting art shows, music lessons, free community events, and so much more! We offer financial aid to students in all of our programs throughout the year, through grant opportunities and community-supported fundraising.
Artspace Community Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that encourages and nurtures the appreciation of and participation in the arts by offering programs and instruction, and by advocating the importance of the arts in education and in the community.

Our History
Artspace Community Arts Center has quite a long history in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1973, beginning its journey up the hill at the original 1880 Greenfield Public Library on 7 Franklin Street. Initially, this community center was referred to as The Arts Council of Franklin County, started by a collective of Franklin County parents seeking more out-of-school arts experiences for their children.
In 2000 the Valley Community Music School merged with The Arts Council of Franklin County, creating the multi-disciplinary community center that we know and love - Artspace Community Arts Center!
Since 2007, Artspace has called 15 Mill Street home, hosting hundreds of classes, art exhibits, and community events.
ARTSPACE GREENFIELD TO RECEIVE $10,000 FEDERAL GRANT
Grant from National Endowment for the Arts will support the Artspace Community Gallery
February 6, Greenfield, MA: — Artspace Greenfield has been approved for a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the Artspace Community Gallery.
“The NEA is delighted to announce this grant to Artspace Greenfield, which is helping contribute to the strength and well-being of the arts sector and local community,” said National Endowment for the Arts Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “We are pleased to be able to support this community and help create an environment where all people have the opportunity to live artful lives.”
The grant, which is part of the NEA’s Challenge America program, will support selected exhibits in the Artspace Community Gallery from February 2024 through July 2025 and is aimed at deepening the gallery’s focus on new and emerging rural artists, as well as artists from non-traditional backgrounds.
“We are tremendously honored to have support from the NEA. A community gallery in a rural county like ours plays a vital role in advancing the artistic practice and career paths of local artists,” stated Artspace Director Madeline Miller. “This grant will allow Artspace to provide more artists in Greenfield and Franklin County with an opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional gallery setting, and will create new opportunities for the community to view important creative work.” The Artspace Community Gallery has also received recent support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Artspace is one of only a small handful of organizations in Franklin County that has received NEA support in recent decades and is the only grantee in Greenfield.
Forthcoming exhibits include the 50th Annual Teen Show (opening February 16), a solo show by Jules Jones, and a Greenfield Community College student show, among others.

Artspace Community Arts Center is Greenfield's oldest community arts organization, offering multidisciplinary arts education for all ages, a Community Gallery, the annual Artspace Market, and other arts programming. Artspace is located on Mill Street and is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
